We are proud to announce that the National Endowment for the Arts has chosen Lonesome Pine Regional Library to receive our second grant to host The Big Read. Lonesome Pine Regional Library, along with our partners, will celebrate Willa Cather’s classic novel My Ántonia, during April and May. Our partnering agencies include: University of Virginia’s College at Wise and Mountain Empire Community College Regional Adult Education Program of Lee, Scott, Wise and City of Norton Public Schools Public Schools in Wise, Dickenson, Lee, and Scott Counties and the City of Norton Lonesome Pine Office on Youth Southwest Virginia Museum and Historical State Park The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail Virginia Commission of the Arts Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission Pro-Art Association

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. The Big Read is designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens.
