Children's Programs

 

Storytime is a program designed for children age 3 to 5. It begins in early fall and runs throughout the school year. The program includes crafts, game play, songs, finger plays, rhymes and stories. Children must register at the beginning of the program year. (See individual branch locations for times and availability.) 

Teddy Bear Tea / Toddlertime is a thirty minute program designed for children age 2, accompanied by an adult. Children enjoy stories, finger plays, songs and snacks. It also gives children a chance to interact with other children their own age and to begin developing needed social and play skills. Pre-registration is required. (See individual branch locations for times and availability.)
Summer Reading Program  is an annual Summer Reading Program that is held during the summer months. The program is generally in session for 6 - 8 weeks. Each year, programming is centered around a basic theme which is designated by the Library of Virginia. Dates, times, and content of programs are determined in each branch. In an effort to encourage reading, children are provided a reading log. All programs are designed to emphasize the joy of reading. Weekly sessions consist of various activities, such as, storytelling ; informative exhibits; educational entertainment; outdoor games/events; etc. An annual evaluation of the Summer Reading Program is forwarded to the Library of Virginia. 
After School Program  - Some branches of the library system provide an after school program for children grades K-7. The frequency and length of the programs are determined in each branch. The programs consist of stories, games, crafts and lots of fun. (See individual branch locations for times and availability.) 
Mother Goose Time is designed for children 0-2 yrs., accompanied by an adult. See individual branch locations for program day and time.
