POSITION: Division Librarian (Wise County)

LOCATION: Lonesome Pine Regional Library -- Wise, VA

DESCRIPTION: Lonesome Pine Regional Library is accepting applications for a Division Librarian responsible for administering and coordinating the operations of Wise County’s four public service outlets. The ideal candidate must be a dynamic and forward-thinking professional with a positive and enthusiastic approach to public services and library leadership. This professional position provides leadership in the areas of reference, circulation, collection development, programming, and specialized professional work. Responsibilities include assessment of community needs and the development, coordination, and implementation of county-wide library service. This is a supervisory position responsible for directing, reviewing and evaluating the work of county branch managers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public library work; knowledge of library trends and best practices for superior service delivery. Demonstrated ability and willingness to lead a team and work in teams, to analyze professional and managerial problems and recommend workable solutions, and to organize work effectively and direct personnel. Considerable knowledge of user interests and needs, and a broad knowledge of books, authors and non-book materials and online resources. Knowledge of library automation software and technology. Superior oral and written communication skills; exceptional interpersonal skills.

REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a Masters Degree in Library studies from an ALA accredited library school. Previous public library and management experience preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Requires frequent and regular travel; individual must be physically capable of operating library vehicles safely, possess a driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle may be required at times.

SALARY: Entry $37,440 with a competitive benefits package including health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Virginia Retirement System, sick and vacation leave, paid holidays.
